TOUGH-nut Jack Viney says Melbourne owes St Kilda and he is desperate to gain the four points against the Saints this Sunday at the MCG, after the Demons went down by two points in round 11’s clash at Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to Dee TV, a pumped up Viney said the loss just over a month ago still annoys him, after Melbourne lost the match with seconds remaining.

“I feel like we owe St Kilda one. I feel like we should’ve won last time we played them and they ended up sneaking over the line in the end,” he said.

“Personally, I feel like we owe them one and I’m going to be going out there to try and take it off them.”

Viney said Melbourne’s closest loss of the season was “pretty devastating”.

“[We] lost so late in the game there,” he said.

“I think we learned a lot from that – the players, coaches and the whole club in terms of communication. We learned from that a lot against Geelong – the week straight after – and we felt like the communication was really good that game and it led to us winning.

“I feel like we’ve learned from our mistakes in the past and if we’re put in that position again this weekend, then we’ll be able to deal with that appropriately.”

Reflecting on Melbourne’s 24-point win over the Brisbane Lions at the MCG last Sunday, Viney said there was always a good feeling around the club following a victory.

“We had the review this morning (Tuesday) and had light skills outside just to get the body moving again, so I’m feeling good and pulled up well,” he said.

“For us, it was a game of two halves. We were really happy with our first half and felt our ball movement was really solid and it ended up leading to some easy goals.

“On the flipside, Brisbane started to get their ball movement a bit better and it’s how we adjusted and how we let them back in the game.”
