SAMANTHA Johnson, former Melbourne AFLW player and Casey VFLW Captain, will return to Casey’s VFLW side in 2024.
Johnson joined Melbourne AFLW through the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Draft after a stellar campaign with the Casey Demons, and a previous history with St Kilda AFLW.
In 2022, Johnson won the Casey Demons VFLW Best and Fairest, in her inaugural season as Captain.
She made her Melbourne AFLW debut in Round 1 of Season 7 and went onto play a further two games for 2022.
After announcing she was pregnant in September 2022, Johnson sat out the remainder of the season. She returned to the active list prior to Round 1 in Season 2023, just four months after giving birth.
Although she didn’t play any games for Melbourne AFLW, Johnson was a much-loved member of the team with impactful leadership.
In 2024, Johnson returns to Casey Fields, bringing experience of high performance environments with her.
