Speaking at AAMI Park on Thursday, Neeld indicated it was another important night in the club’s recent history and that the additional funding would help boost the resources of the football department significantly.
“It was a really good night for the club. From a footy department point of view, we’re extremely appreciative of the support that we get from our supporters,” he said.
“We have just over 35,000 members and they back the club in all the time and it was a wonderful function to be part of.
“To meet some of the passionate supporters - they’re an amazing group of people. They’ve able to put their hands in their pocket so often and support the club. It’s great to know that there are so many people behind us in what we’re trying to achieve.”
Meanwhile, Neeld said this Sunday’s clash against Adelaide Crows at the MCG would be a great opportunity for his developing side to test itself against a legitimate September contender.
“I’ve watched Adelaide the last couple of weeks and I actually thought it was a really good game of footy [last round]. They started brilliantly and then Brisbane got back into the game and it was a really close, hard fought game,” he said.
“Brisbane has made significant gains this year and they’re a particularly hard team to beat at home. They’ve got a quality midfield themselves and they managed to get over the line by a couple of goals. Sometimes in situations like that, not enough credit was given to Brisbane and the way that Brisbane went about it.
“In saying that, we know the season that Adelaide has had - they’re leading the competition in a couple of areas, noticeably contested possessions and clearances, so we know we’re in for a challenge, but one that our young group is really keen to take head on.”
