JARED Rivers has joined Geelong as an unrestricted free agent after 10 years of fine service and dedication with Melbourne.

Rivers, who turned 28 years old on Thursday, made his debut with Melbourne in 2003.

He was originally from North Adelaide at No.26 in the 2002 NAB AFL Draft.

The defender/forward played 150 matches for the club and has now qualified for Melbourne life membership.

In 2004, Rivers won the AFL Rising Star after an outstanding season.

Although injuries interrupted his career, he produced some good form in recent years. He gained his first top three placing in a best and fairest last year when he finished second.

He also came fifth in the club champion this year.

In 2011, Rivers was a joint vice-captain.
