MELBOURNE will continue preparations for its 2024 AFL campaign on Thursday morning, as the Demons hit the track for the first time after the holiday period.
The group, who completed individual programs over the break, will come together again at Casey Fields, with full focus on their season-opener in just 56 days’ time.
Thursday will see Demons Max Gawn, Tom McDonald and Steven May progress through their 14th pre-season at the top level, while Melbourne’s new recruits, who joined the club following November’s AFL Draft, will be eased back into the training program as they continue to find their feet.
Midfielder Clayton Oliver will miss training as he continues to focus on his personal challenges.
General Manager of AFL Performance Alan Richardson said Oliver had taken some extended leave to focus on his wellbeing.
“Clayton has personal issues that he has been dealing with. Clayton has been working extremely closely with his personal medical team, and with the support of key Club staff, in order to manage these challenges,” Richardson said.
“The Club fully supports Clayton taking this important time out which will allow him to focus on these challenges.
“Our primary focus is Clayton’s overall wellbeing, and we will continue to support him through this period.
“It’s important for Clayton that we respect his privacy and his need for time and space.”
Melbourne will kick off the 2024 AFL Premiership Season on Thursday, March 7, taking on the Sydney Swans at the SCG in the Opening Round.
