The Power got off to a flyer, booting the first four goals to lead by 26 points at the 13-minute mark.
The Demons steadied and hit back with two in a row through Max Gawn and Jack Watts to cut the deficit back to 14 points.
But when Kane Mitchell kicked the Power’s fifth in time-on, it led by 20 points at quarter-time.
Second quarter: Port Adelaide 8.4 (52) to Melbourne 7.4 (46)
The Demons started the second term in positive fashion, when Cam Pedersen kicked his first for the day.
Andalthough the Power answered with the next two majors – and led by 24points – the Demons hit back strongly with four of the next five goals.
Itstarted with two goals in two minutes via Christian Salem and Dom Tysonat the 19 and 20 minute marks, and when Rohan Bail kicked two goals intime-on, the Demons went into the main break,trailing by just six points.
Three quarter-time: Port Adelaide 10.9 (69) to Melbourne 10.5 (65)
The Demons continued their impressive form in the second half – booting the opening three goals of the third term.
Pedersenand Tyson both kicked their second, with the latter putting the Demonsin front at the 10-minute mark – and for the first time in the match.James Frawley then made it three in a rowfor the Dees, giving them a 10-point lead.
ThePower didn’t kick its first goal of the third term until the 19-minutemark and when Robbie Gray followed up with his second for the match,Port Adelaide was back in front. At three-quartertime, the Power had a four-point advantage.
Final quarter: Port Adelaide 14.11 (95) d Melbourne 11.9 (75)
Fivebehinds were registered before the first goal of the final term wasscored – a set-shot major by Salem, who put the Demons back in front byfive points at the 13-minute mark.
PortAdelaide didn’t manage its first goal until the 15-minute mark, viaJustin Westhoff, who then made it two in a row, giving the Power aseven-point lead.
But when Jared Polac and Ollie Wines made it four in a row for Port Adelaide, it was home by 20 points.
