MELBOURNE’S midfield has received recognition from All-Australian selectors, with two Demons named in the 2023 All-Australian squad.

Christian Petracca and Jack Viney feature in the 44-man line-up, a squad chosen by selectors to recognise the leading players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks.

Viney will be vying for his maiden All-Australian selection after a career-best season in the red and blue that has seen him push his game to a new level.

The vice-captain’s powerful determination in the contest and on-field leadership has been a key asset to the side in season 2023, the 29-year-old averaging 25.6 disposals, 5.1 clearances and 5.3 inside 50s (a career-high statistic).

In a testament to the talent of the 27-year-old, Petracca will be looking for his fourth consecutive All-Australian jacket.

The recognition comes after a season that has seen him shine in a dual-role for the Demons, impressing across both the midfield and forward line.

Petracca has booted 27 goals across his 23 matches and is currently averaging 27.9 disposals and six clearances, while also topping the league for average score involvements (8.6).

The final All-Australian team will be announced on Wednesday night during the AFL Awards, with fans able to watch live via Fox Footy from 7:00pm AEST.
