Tayla Harris has been defeated by super welterweight champion Milli Agboegbulen in her boxing match on Wednesday night in Sydney.

Harris spoke frankly about the loss, praising her opposition.

“I’m disappointed with the result but I’ll learn from this and be back stronger. Credit to Milli, she’s a tough competitor and was the better boxer on the night,” Harris said.

She has sustained significant bruising and swelling to her left eye; however, this is her last fight before the beginning of the AFLW season and she is anticipating a quick return to fitness.

“Physically I’m ok. Nothing is broken, I’ve got a black eye and a few bruises but I’ll be fine. I’ll take a few days to rest and recover and then be back at footy training.”

Harris will miss pre-season training on Thursday afternoon to recover, but is expected to return to Melbourne soon.

“I’m excited to shift my focus to footy and preparing for Round 1. Thanks to my boxing team, the Melbourne Football Club and to everyone who watched and supported from home.”

Melbourne plays its opening match of the 2023 AFLW season on Friday 1 September, taking on Collingwood at IKON Park.
