INS – Jacob van Rooyen
OUTS – Brodie Grundy (omitted)
MELBOURNE has recalled young spearhead Jacob van Rooyen as it continues to tinker with its forward mix as the season hots up.
The talented second-year Demon has earned his spot back in the AFL side after two impressive outings for Casey.
The developing key forward kicked 17 goals across his first 12 games at AFL level, playing every match from Round 3 to Round 15.
Ruckman Brodie Grundy makes way for van Rooyen’s addition to the side, with the Demons keen to give the career ruckman more minutes up forward.
“We have been transparent that we are continuing to look for ways to be more effective in front of the ball,” GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson says.
“We really like the impact that Brodie is having in the ruck, but think he would benefit from more time as a forward.
“To provide him with this opportunity, he will spend some time in the VFL and focus on refining his forward craft.
“To Brodie’s credit, he is completely aligned and on board with this plan. This is a testament to Brodie’s character and the type of person he is.”
Last week’s debutant Taj Woewodin remains in the side to face Brisbane, while the aforementioned Grundy has been named as an emergency alongside Dunstan, Smith and Chandler.
The ball will bounce at 7:50pm AEST at the MCG.
