MELBOURNE midfielder Angus Brayshaw had completed every training session during the pre-season, but when his wisdom teeth started playing up there was little chance he was going to make a blot in his copybook.
Brayshaw, who will join AFL.com.au's AFL Exchange podcast as a regular guest in 2018, revealed the pain he had to put up with during what was one of the most important sessions of Melbourne's pre-season at Casey Fields on Friday.
"I had a toothache Tuesday and was taking Panadol. Tuesday, Wednesday I was taking my Panadol and it was so painful and all my teeth had been pushed out of line," Brayshaw revealed on the podcast.
"I went to the dentist and he just laughed at me and said we should probably take these out.
"I hadn't missed a session all pre-season and we had a big session planned for Friday, so I was like, 'Look, can you get me through Friday and I'll come back after training.'
"I reckon I had an hour and a half sleep Thursday night and never felt worse in my entire life for training on Friday morning."
Brayshaw pushed through the pain barrier and went back to the dentist following the session on Friday to have his wisdom teeth out to ensure there would be no more discomfort.
The midfielder had his teeth "out in the chair" and as part of his recovery, and to avoid infection, Brayshaw sat out Monday's training session – an absence noticed by the watching media.
Brayshaw made it absolutely clear he would be right to go against Geelong on Sunday.
"I ran around at training this morning (Tuesday) and I get the stitches out later this week so I feel fine," Brayshaw said.
