MELBOURNE will be without Harrison Petty this weekend, the utility sidelined due to concussion.

Petty collided with teammate Tom Sparrow in the final minutes of Monday night’s Anzac Day Eve game and will subsequently miss the club’s Round 7 clash against North Melbourne.

High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said the Demon had entered the AFL’s concussion protocols following the match.

“Unfortunately, at the end of the game, Harrison sustained a head knock,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.

“Following a review, it was diagnosed that he sustained a concussion. He’s integrated into the concussion protocols and will progress as symptoms allow.”

Petty joins teammate Charlie Spargo within the league’s concussion protocols, the small forward set to miss a second match this weekend after being sidelined following a head knock in Round 5.

“Charlie, based on AFL protocols, needs to get through his contact progressions and unfortunately, with our five-day turnaround this week, we just don’t have the time to allow him to complete those sessions,” Griffith said.

In positive news, Joel Smith is hopeful of a return-to-play this weekend after a short stint on the sidelines with a thumb injury.

Smith has integrated into training with the main group and will be available for selection this weekend.

Christian Salem (knee), Kye Turner (groin) and Will Verrall (pelvis) are all continuing to move forward in their respective rehabilitation programs.
