BERNIE Vince says Melbourne doesn’t deserve to start favourites against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Sunday.

Speaking after Melbourne’s nine-point loss to Essendon at the MCG on Saturday, Vince said his side needed to rebound strongly against the Lions.

Although the Demons have won four matches to the Lions’ two this season, Vince said Melbourne had not earned the right to start favourites over the current 18th placed team.

“On our form, we don’t deserve to be favourites,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“We don’t look at who’s favourite and who’s not.

“We’ve got to get back to the things that we’re good at for the majority of the game.

“The contest is where we build our game around and we’ve got to win it inside and then our outside players have got to create more run.

“We don’t really deserve to be favourites to be honest, but that doesn’t matter to us.”

Melbourne hasn’t defeated the Brisbane Lions since round three, 2011.

The Demons have lost their past five matches against the Lions.
