MOVING to another club during the AFL's trade period can be a daunting fate for many.
Players are faced with an unknown environment, new teammates, a change in routines.
But when former Bulldog Josh Schache officially became a Demon last October, the 25-year-old decided that his move wasn't going to be that intimidating experience.
Instead, he stepped foot into the Melbourne Football Club and instantly embraced the challenges ahead.
This commitment to the red and blue started with off-season sessions alongside his new teammates.
“That was one of the things I really wanted to get into and to get stuck in as soon as I could,” Schache told Melbourne Media.
“It was a good way to meet some of the boys before we got into the real stuff in pre-season and it was a great, welcoming club even before we were on official duties.
Schache was one of three players to come across to the Demons during last year's trade period, coming across alongside former Bulldog teammate Lachie Hunter and former Pie Brodie Grundy.
“It’s been good to come over with Hunts [Hunter] and have a familiar face, it made the transition that little bit easier,” Schache said.
"Brodie has been awesome, I’ve already learned a lot off him , so I’ve really bonded well with him."
Although Schache has spent much of his time both up forward and in defence during his career, this pre-season has seen him learn the ruck ropes off some of the best in the league.
"With Maxy [Gawn] unfortunately having a little niggle at the moment, I’ve had do a little more ruck time, which I’ve really enjoyed," Schache said.
"I’ve taken it with both hands and it’s been a great challenge coming up against one of the best rucks in the competition, so I’ve already learned a lot.
"It’s been fun, it’s been hard, but I’ve loved it."
With Round 1 just 43 days away, Schache is as focused as ever, with the hopes to break into Melbourne's starting side when the opportunity comes.
"I'm really just looking to learn at the moment and try and find my feet wherever that position is, if that’s up forward or if it’s in the ruck," Schache said.
"I’m really happy to be a part of the group…I really want to be in the team and I’m really striving to get my spot in that team."
