Although it has not been a week since Taggert was drafted at selection No.36, he has already taken a liking for Trengove’s work-ethic and ability.
“He’s made such a big impact on the league in such a short time, so I try to get as close to him and learn as much as I can from him,” he said.
“My strengths would be my marking and kicking and the size of my body [for my age] and my ability to play in different spots of the ground,” he said.
“I’ve played, all juniors growing up, as a forward. This year with [North Ballarat] Rebels, I played as a forward and a little bit down back and through the midfield.
“Coming to Melbourne, they see me as a future onballer, so I’ve been doing a lot of work with the midfield group. Hopefully I’ll get a position there soon.”
Taggert has already moved in with Tom McDonald’s host family.
“To have him around helps a lot, but in Melbourne, my brother has also moved down here to South Melbourne,” he said.
“I’ve always liked Melbourne, so moving down here doesn’t faze me at all.”
And so far the boy originally from Horsham Saints is relishing life with Melbourne.
“It’s been pretty tiring. The body’s not used to it, but it’s very exciting and the club’s unreal,” he said.
“The club’s so welcoming and everyone is easy to talk to and the facilities are amazing, so I love it.”
