SENIOR assistant coach Simon Goodwin says he’s relishing the new coaching environment at Melbourne, after the Adelaide great joined the club from Essendon at the end of last season.
Goodwin, who will succeed Paul Roos as Melbourne coach after the 2016 season, said it had been “terrific” working with the coaching panel in the first two rounds, particularly on game day, despite acknowledging there was plenty of work to undertake.
“We know that we’ve got a lot of work to do in the way we’re developing our game and getting these boys to play to a system – and the right way to play the game,” he told Dee TV.
“We felt last week we went away from that.
“As coaches we’ve had a really strong review and strong training week and we feel like we’ve educated them as best we can.”
Goodwin said the players and coaches had worked hard this week, following their disappointing second half against GWS in Canberra last round.
But he was pleased with the attitude of the group, entering Saturday’s clash against the Crows at Adelaide Oval.
“We’ve had a busy week, after the result we had [in round two] – we weren’t happy about that, but we’ve really taken a strong attitude into this week’s training and feel that we’ve prepared as best we can.”
