SOME very sad news was received on Wednesday, when the Melbourne Football Club was informed of the passing of a treasured member of its family - Mavis Cardwell.
Mavis was the widow of Jim Cardwell, one of the greatest secretaries and recruiters of all time during his tenure from 1951 to 1975 - and well beyond.
Mavis shared the experience of being part of the Club with him throughout this time, and contributed as an integral part of its social and organisational fabric.
She was particularly important to establishing many functions and keeping people together, and was at the heart of the Club community.
We pass on our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.
