SINCE the conception of the AFLW competition, Melbourne has played 60 games across seven seasons.
This weekend, Sarah Lampard, who has ruptured her ACL twice and suffered a significant hamstring strain during that time, will run out in the red and blue for the 50th occasion.
And that achievement shouldn’t be taken lightly.
The 25-year-old has showed incredible commitment and resilience to become just the sixth person to play 50 games for the Demons.
“[I’ve had] a couple of big injuries but I feel like it has shaped me into the person I am today,” Lampard said on the Lil and Lize(s) podcast.
“I wouldn’t change it – I don’t hold a grudge against my injuries.
“I had two knee injuries and I probably only missed four or five games I reckon, total.
“Other than that, I’ve been fine – trying to do everything I can not to get another knee injury.”
Lampard is one of just five remaining inaugural Demons, joining the club via pick No.134 in the 2016 AFLW Draft.
The half-back flanker has averaged 11 disposals per game throughout her career to date and booted her first and only goal against West Coast in 2020 – the side she will face this weekend at Casey Fields.
