Melbourne coach Neale Daniher says the AFL club will use their current injury crisis to blood young players.

The Demons will give 18-year-old midfielder Ricky Petterd his debut against Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night and Daniher said other youngsters were also close to selection.

"Over the next month we hope to get blokes back (from injury)," Daniher said.

"The good thing about where we're at is it's only four games in and we know these blokes will come back into the team.

"In the meantime we'll start to have a look at some younger blokes, it's good to get Ricky into the team this weekend.

"They'll come back into the team and we'll only improve from here."

He said other youngsters in line for senior selection included Colin Garland, Simon Buckley and James Frawley.

Meanwhile, Daniher said he was comfortable with his own position, despite being in the final year of his contract, with the club 0-4 and low on fit players.

"Nothing changes, you've just got to prepare and back the blokes that play for the club," he said.

"Coach as best you can and then you can't control some of the circumstances we've got at the moment.

"I feel really comfortable with the support I'm getting from everyone at the club, including from the chairman through to the players, I feel really comfortable."
