BERNIE VINCE says he’s excited by the development shown by Melbourne’s young group in 2015.
Melbourne has won six games so far this year, including strong wins against Collingwood and Geelong.
Now at the tail end of his second year at the club, Vince said the team had clearly improved on its 2014 season.
“I think we’ve improved big-time, even just from last year,” he said on Friday.
“We’ve won two more already than last year but there’s probably a few others that we probably should have won as well which were really disappointing.
“Not even just speaking in wins and losses – just [the] development of the younger guys [is good] and the way we’re playing now can hold up in big games.
“So I’m really excited about the next couple of years.”
Vince said the team had used the round 17 loss against St Kilda as an opportunity to bounce back in the final weeks of the home and away season.
“Leading into the Collingwood game, [we’d] had a really poor game against St Kilda and spoke about having six weeks left and having a bit of a mini-season within a season,” he said.
“There’s a lot of tough games within that patch but we’re going to try and go out and win every one of them.”
Melbourne is still yet to win two games back-to-back this season, with several wins followed directly by disappointing losses.
Vince said after a strong win against Collingwood, the team would be keen to move forward and maintain its form against North Melbourne.
“We’ve made a real point that the last time we won, we were disappointing again [the next week],” he said.
“So it’s just finding that right mix – [we’re not] celebrating our wins but maybe holding onto our wins a little bit too long – we even hold onto our losses a little bit too long sometimes, after our disappointing losses.
“So it’s that balance of viewing the game from the weekend – win, lose or draw – and then moving onto that next week.
“That’s something we’ve tried to get better at but the proof will be in the pudding, as they say, and we haven’t done that yet.”
