LAST TIME WE MET: Round 3, 2022 | Narrm v St Kilda | Casey Fields
Narrm hosted St Kilda at Casey Fields to celebrate the AFLW’s Pride Round last season and thanks to a fourth-quarter surge, finished the day 41-point victors.
The match, which saw both teams battle through the Casey heat, began as a tight contest. With each score from one side, came a score from the opposition, a pattern that continued right up until three-quarter time.
Scores were level at the final break, setting the game up for a big last quarter with the Demons the team to come out firing. They kept the Saints scoreless while piling on a whopping six goals. Karen Paxman was instrumental with 19 disposals, while Tayla Harris proved herself up forward kicking three goals.
This dominant fourth term saw Narrm seal its win over St Kilda at 9.10 (64) to 3.5 (23).
PLAYER TO WATCH: Narrm
Libby Birch
Libby Birch is one of the league’s most impressive defenders and has been for quite some time now. The Demon is a two-time All-Australian and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down in Season Seven.
Birch started the season restricting premiership forwards in Narrm’s win over Adelaide and will head into this weekend’s match off the back of a standout display in her team’s two-point win over the Kangaroos during Round 2, where she collected 13 disposals and a game-high seven marks.
PLAYER TO WATCH: St Kilda
Kate Shierlaw
Kate Shierlaw has been a valued member of St Kilda’s line-up since its introduction into the league in 2020. The key forward is known for her contested marking ability and her overall impact inside 50, whether that be through her goal-kicking or score involvements.
Starting the season on a positive, Shierlaw has already kicked six goals over the past two weeks, with a game-high four goals in St Kilda’s 29-point win over Sydney in Round 1. The Saint will no doubt be looking to bring this momentum into Sunday's game, and will pose a threat to Narrm's defenders.
COACH’S VIEW: Mick Stinear
"The team is hungry to get our game back in good shape," Stinear said.
"We're also really excited to be playing in the Indigenous Rounds this week and next week...we're proud to be running out as the Narrm Football Club.
"And we're looking forward to the challenge ahead in Round 3 against St Kilda."
