MELBOURNE'S Christian Petracca has completed a successful session on the track and will look to be available for Friday night's semi-final against Brisbane.
It was announced on Saturday that Petracca had suffered a minor hairline fracture following an incident during Friday night's qualifying final, but would not be ruled out for the team's upcoming match due to the nature of the fracture.
Club Doctor Laura Lallenec confirmed this afternoon that the main concern was not the fracture itself, but rather the hit to the leg.
“The harder bit of the injury was that he had a big kick to his calf, which resulted in a corkie and that actually was bothering him more," Lallenec said.
“Thankfully, it’s really settled down and he’s done everything right. We’ve discussed his injury with a specialist and they’re really happy that this injury is stable and that he’s safe to get out there and play.
"Today was really about getting him out training, making sure that he’s functional, that he’s able to run around, that he’s comfortable and he’s really proven that today."
Melbourne forward Bayley Fritsch received scans this week following some knee soreness in the warm-up ahead of Friday’s qualifying final, but has been cleared of any damage and has returned to full training.
With the physicality of last week's match, Charlie Spargo has also been cleared of any fractures to his airway after a heavy knock to his throat.
"He does have some bruising around his vocal cords, so that's something we like to keep a really close eye on...he's been seeing a specialist every two days," Lallenec said.
"[We need] to make sure that swelling is improving which it definitely is, so today was really precautionary looking after him early in the week, so we can get him going later in the week and hopefully have him ready to go for Friday."
