JORDAN Gysberts and Austin Wonaeamirri look set to play their first matches for the season for Melbourne in this Sunday's clash with the Brisbane Lions.

The pair starred for VFL side Casey against Geelong last week and Melbourne coach Dean Bailey said they were a chance to get a call-up.

"I think Gysberts and Wonaeamirri have played particularly well in the last couple of weeks. They are two guys who we would be considering tomorrow," Bailey said on Thursday.

"The guys who are in the team, you've still got to look at developing those guys. They were part of last week's third quarter and they've also got to respond this week as well."

Bailey warned that there were several Demons in the gun after last Sunday's heavy loss to Hawthorn. Melbourne was overrun by the Hawks in the second half, and especially in the third term, after holding a 19-point lead at half time.

"I think we'll look at a couple of changes. It is a main training session tomorrow so there would be a few guys who would have to train well to retain their spot. But also the energy they bring and their commitment to the physical side of training will tell a story as well," he said.

The Demons coach did not hold back when asked about Melbourne's third quarter performance, where they allowed the Hawks to kick 8.11.

"We're a little bit inconsistent. I'm not going to stand here and say what happened in the third quarter was acceptable," he said.

"Far from it, 8.11 in a quarter, no matter how you look at it, you can wrap it up and spin it all you like, but it is a very ordinary piece of football to watch and it was an ordinary piece of football to play in as well."

Bailey said he was wary of this week's opponent, despite the fact the Lions are yet to win a match this season.

"I thought they were very good in round one against Fremantle. To have lost the number of players they did and still be right in the game was very good," he said.

"Last week both teams didn't perform that well, but they have got some good young guys running around and we know that having played them four or five weeks ago at Princes Park they were too good for us that day. I think both teams have got something to offer on Sunday."
