THE DEMON Spirit was alive and well at The Gabba on Friday night.
Melbourne put together one of its finest outings of 2022 to claim a crucial 58-point win over the Lions, and as simple as it sounds, having fun was the key to success, according to Christian Petracca.
“I thought that was a four-quarter consistent footy,” he told Melbourne Media post-game.
“Our contest was awesome, our defence was unbelievable, we played really united, and we just had fun.
“Play the way we played; our method stacks up against anyone.”
It did just that under the ultimate test: a finals-like hit-out in Round 23.
And for the 11th consecutive interstate trip, the Demons will go home winners.
“We travel really well,” Petracca said.
“I feel like we get away with the group, we’re really focused, we’re locked in in hostile environments.
“It was awesome.”
Friday night’s result was the Dees’ 16th victory of the season, cementing their place in the top-four.
But the hard work is just beginning.
“We understand we’ve put ourselves in a great position for finals, to attack that again,” Petracca said.
“As we said … last year, it’s season two coming up.
“This is really important where the whips are cracking, and we need to get our game firing again.”
