MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey says Brent Moloney has earned his reappointment to the side's leadership group after consistently setting a positive example at the club since his April demotion.

The 27-year-old was removed the Demons' six-man leadership group and stripped of the vice-captaincy after an incident following on from their round three win over the Brisbane Lions where he was out nearly all night drinking.

The next day, he revealed he had a problem with drinking to access when he consumed alcohol.

Bailey said Moloney had "done everything required of him" since he was publically shamed and dropped from the group.

"He's certainly seeking some counselling in a sense of his binge drinking, which he was very public about," he said on Friday.

"I think he's always a very, very good trainer anyway but he's really led the example at training and certainly led through doing extras during the week.

"He's still been heavily involved in our discussions during the week from a training point of view.

"He's led on the track, he's led in the games, and he's been very consistent with his output so we reward the effort he's put in and we're very happy for him to be back in."

The Demons' midfielder, who has averaged 24.5 disposals a game in 2011, was reinstated on Tuesday after meeting with the leadership group and being the subject of a squad-wide vote.

Moloney, who had received counselling to address his drinking issues, was thrilled about his reinstatement.

"Obviously I'm really happy to be back as vice-captain of the footy club that I love," Moloney said on The Footy Show.

He also vowed that there would be no more disciplinary indiscretions.

"I promise you right now, I can promise all the Melbourne supporters out there that nothing like this will happen ever again."
