COACH Paul Roos says Melbourne’s 40-point win over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night was another big tick for the club.
Roos said the fact it won on the back of last round’s stunning victory over Hawthorn at the MCG was another important feat.
“We’ve had trouble putting wins together and this year is the first one we’ve done three in a row [since I’ve been at the club], and Hawthorn is clearly a very good team and Port away is a very, very hard venue to win at,” he said.
“To win it convincingly was really, really pleasing.
“They’re all steps forward for a young group and a group that’s growing together. I’m rapt for the team, rapt for the players, rapt for the coaches, particularly our assistant coaches, who put in an enormous amount of work. It’s another stepping stone for the footy club.”
Roos said he had seen the whole club mature in his time at Melbourne.
“There is real synergy and message from the coaches,” he said.
“There are great relationships … it’s a whole thing and that translates onto the field.
“Certainly there is some real talent in the footy club now and it’s a real credit to the recruiting guys, who have done a terrific job.”
