Melbourne Football Club has made its first official visit to the community of Santa Teresa since the ‘MCG of the Desert’ was launched back in June, 2021.
The grassed oval project was an initiative close to the heart of the football club, with Melbourne working closely with the Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) community and Atyenhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation (AAAC) in making the dream a reality for the town.
It was a highly anticipated visit after COVID-19 interruptions restricted the club from being there for the launch in 2021.
The visit was over a two-day period in which locals gathered at the oval to participate in a range of activities including a football clinic with Kysaiah Pickett and Toby Bedford and a community football match between the Ltyentyies and the Demons.
