A 74-POINT win capped off a weekend of reflection for the Demons, who mirrored their efforts from last September.

On Sunday night, they returned to the scene that saw them break a 57-year premiership drought, and defeated the Eagles by the same margin as that famous match against the Dogs.

And while that detail escaped Charlie Spargo as he walked off the ground, playing on Optus Stadium once again certainly wasn’t taken for granted.

“It was special coming back here,” Spargo told Melbourne Media.

“When I was in the tunnel, similar to last year, I was picturing what it was like with the pre-game entertainment and everything last year.

“Goody brought it up in the pre-game meeting this week – you want to draw on those memories when we come back here to play.

“We play here again this year, but it sort of gets you thinking of the process, and the process we went through last year to get there and how that relates to what we’re doing this year.

“[I was] really, really excited to play on this ground again – it brings back a lot of good memories.”

Perth has become a home away from home for the red and blue, who will have a connection to the state and the stadium for many years to come.

And it wasn’t just the memories that spurred the away side on, it was the travelling fans who came to watch their team record a ninth win from as many starts this season.

“I feel like we’ve got a really strong contingent here in Perth,” Spargo said.

“They were tremendous last year in our few games over here and they were really good tonight.

“Maybe not the biggest number but certainly very passionate, so it was good to have some fans come out.”
