SUNDAY night’s match was a special one for Luke Dunstan, in more ways than one.

Dunstan played in his first official game for Melbourne since joining the club back in October last year.

With friends and family by his side, the midfielder was presented with his first red and blue guernsey by former No.27 Jared Rivers ahead of the ANZAC Day Eve match.

“It was a really special night,” Dunstan told Melbourne Media.

“The club has done a really great job in making it feel special and it’ll be something I remember for a long time.

“[We were] able to get the family down here for the jumper presentation and have a few things during the week, so the boys have done a really great job in making it feel really special.”

Having spent the past six months settling into the club, the powerful inside-midfielder said he’d taken the time to embrace the opportunity and learn from some of the league’s best.

“It’s been great to learn off them and play on them over the pre-season and try and pick up a few things from their game,” Dunstan said.

“They couldn’t have made me feel more welcome.”

Despite trailing at the main break, Melbourne was able to push over the line, topping off Dunstan's club debut with a 22-point win over Richmond.

The 26-year-old highlighted the playing group's ability to stay composed during adverse moments of the game.

“We felt like we were doing a lot of things right, but obviously we weren’t capitalising on the scoreboard," Dunstan said.

“But the one thing I really like about this group and one thing I’ve really noticed is that there’s no panic.

“Everyone’s really calm and level-headed and knows that we’re going to turn things around and some point in the game.”
