MOST Melbourne fans appreciate Ed Langdon’s aerobic capacity, but his running numbers may out-do expectations.
In each of the Demons’ four games to open the season, the wingman has covered more distance than any other player on the ground.
On average, Langdon has run 16 kilometres per match, while 3.5 of those kilometres have been at high speed – another stat where he has recorded four game-highs to start 2022.
Not only does Langdon run hard on the field, he barely goes off.
Out of the 476 minutes of footy Melbourne has played this season, Langdon has missed just under nine of them.
He played 100 percent of game time from rounds one to three, before earning an overdue rest at the conclusion of his side’s victory over Port Adelaide last Thursday.
“It was just the last couple of minutes of the game,” Langdon told Melbourne Media.
“The game was truly wrapped up by then, so it was nice.
“It’s nice to watch the game from a different vantage point.”
While Langdon’s numbers are impressive on their own, the impact his work has on his teammates shouldn’t be underestimated.
“Part of my role is letting the mids rotate a bit more,” he said.
“So if I can stay out there and they get a few more rotations then it’s great.”
Running aside, Langdon has been able to influence every game he has played in this season, averaging 25 disposals and 428 metres gained.
He has also hit the scoreboard with three goals and continues to be a weapon both in defence and on the attack for Melbourne.
