MELBOURNE will need to wait an extra week to host its Preliminary Final, with the AFL today confirming that the match has been rescheduled.
The Demons’ schedule will now look at a home final on Saturday 2 April, with specific timings still to be announced.
Melbourne’s GM of AFLW Marcus Wagner said the club was prepared for the ever-changing environment of the 2022 season.
“Given the circumstances of the year, we’re quite used to needing to change what we do,” Wagner told Melbourne Media.
“But I think we just look at what we can control and that’s how we train and how we prepare.
“All we can do is come out and train hard.”
Melbourne’s last game was played on Saturday 12 March against Carlton, where they secured a one-point win in a battle to the final siren.
The result saw the Demons seal a top-two finish and a home Preliminary Final for the first time in the club’s AFLW history.
“We aimed for top two from the start of the year and that gives you the chance to have that refresh, but also gives you the chance to have that home prelim final, which as a club, we’ve never done before,” Wagner said.
“We had our highest home-and-away finish and it’s been great to earn that home final and the break, but now we’ve just got to maximise this time to get cherry ripe for that prelim final.”
Melbourne will face the winner of the Brisbane and Collingwood Qualifying Final A, which has now been confirmed for Saturday 27 March at 12:10pm (local), the Lions hosting the Pies at the Gabba.
