MELBOURNE has added another memorable moment to its history books, unveiling the 2021 premiership flag in front of Dees fans ahead of its Round 1 season-opener.
The Demons hosted the Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Wednesday night, with the special flag unfurling kicking off the night's proceedings.
The ceremony was a spectacle for those in attendance as eight club legends came together to take part in a unique flag procession, representing all those who have helped make the club what it is today.
Ron Barassi, Hassa Mann, Greg Wells, Stan Alves, Garry Lyon, Todd Viney, David Neitz and Nathan Jones were all welcomed on to the 'G to participate in the official unveiling.
Following the ceremony, the long-awaited grand final rematch began and it wasn't too dissimilar to when the side's met back in September.
Despite the number of momentum shifts throughout the first half, the Demons were able to adjust to the challenges set by the Dogs, taking the lead in the third quarter and keeping this lead for the remainder of the game.
The Dees sealed their win at 14.13 (97) to 11.5 (71), their first victory in front of Melbourne-based fans since June, 2021.
Demons supporters took to social media to express their joy in seeing the pre-game flag unfurling, while also providing commentary on Melbourne's opening win of the 2022 AFL season.
