COME Wednesday night’s Grand Final rematch, the Demons will be without a number of premiership players, but that doesn’t concern Charlie Spargo.

The small forward has confidence in the depth of the list and knows there are boys who are hungry to cement their spot in the side when the chance arises.

“It’s certainly a good problem to have and it’s something Goody (Simon Goodwin) spoke about before,” Spargo told Melbourne Media.

“It’s an opportunity for us as a list and a 22.

“With people in different positions, guys who didn’t play in the Grand Final team last year, can we play the same way?

“You look at all the great teams over the last 20 years – there’s never going to be the same team after the Grand Final coming back in Round 1, but they always find a way to get the job done.

“So that’s what we’re aspiring to be: a team where people come in and we always play the same way.”

Round 1 Ticktes

The Dees had their final pre-season training session in Port Melbourne on Tuesday morning, with preparations now well and truly underway for their Round 1 clash with the Bulldogs.

And following Goodwin’s final team meeting, Spargo was hyped.

“He always has a different message for each one and you always walk out of the meeting feeling pretty motivated and ready to go,” he said.

“[We] have a new perspective on how we want to look at things for the year.

“Walking out of that meeting I’m pretty fired up.”

The season opener at the MCG is set to be a big one on the field and in the stands, with Melbourne unveiling its premiership flag – which, for the first time in the league’s history, has the surname of every 2021 member printed on the back.

“That’ll be a very special moment for the fans to see the flag unfurled,” Spargo said.

“Goody said we’ve earned the right to be in these games and we’re trying to build that respect back from the competition and we did it last year, so we’re looking forward to the big stage.”

Supporters are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:30pm to ensure they see the entire flag ceremony prior to the first bounce.
