THIS morning, the AFL Players’ Association announced its AFLW 22Under22 squad, with four Melbourne players featuring.

In the 40-player squad, Melbourne’s Shelley Heath, Eliza McNamara, Eden Zanker and Tyla Hanks were all named.

The four young Demons have produced standout seasons in the red and blue, all contributing to the side’s top-two finish and secured spot in the 2022 NAB AFLW Finals Series.

Heath and McNamara are first timers to the squad, both players in breakout seasons.

Heath has become a regular performer in defence, with her grit and tenacity the highlight to her game, while McNamara is a constant strength along the wing, her run and carry an asset to the side.

Zanker and Hanks both featured in the 22Under22 squad last season, but have continued to improve their game this season, earning themselves another feature.

Zanker provides depth through the midfield with her height and ground-ball skills combining to create an impact in stoppages. The reigning Rising Star, Hanks is an undeniable natural talent that has been reliable throughout the season, averaging 18.4 disposals and 5.4 tackles.

The squad recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under, with individuals eligible for the squad required to play 50 per cent of season games (five matches).

The final team is decided by fan vote, with voting open for seven days from Tuesday 15 March to Tuesday 22 March.
