THREE hours after the Optus Stadium gates were closed on Grand Final night, a pocket of noise echoed from the Demons' change rooms.

A mix of 74 players, coaches and staff remained inside the otherwise empty venue, celebrating Melbourne's first premiership in 57 years.

Five renditions of the club's famous theme song were belted out in succession, while a variety of classic tunes were played on the speaker to help the Dees enjoy their historic achievement.

Bottle after bottle of champagne was sprayed, as those who had spent the past five weeks away from home soaked up their last moments inside a sporting arena for 2021.
