First quarter: Melbourne 7.1 (43) to Adelaide Crows 3.1 (19)
Melbourne started in stunning fashion, when Christian Petracca landed the first for the day.
By the 13 minute-mark, Melbourne had five goals to zip and a 31-point lead.
It wasn’t until the 16-minute mark that Adelaide registered its first score – a goal to Eddie Betts.
The red and blue had five goalkickers for the term, Jesse Hogan (two), Alex Neal-Bullen (two), Mitch Hannan, Jake Melksham and Christian Petracca, in a fantastic opening.
And although the Crows got back to within 18 point late in the term, when Neal-Bullen landed his second before quarter-time, Melbourne took a 24-point lead into the first change.
Second quarter: Melbourne 12.2 (74) to Adelaide Crows 4.2 (26)
Melbourne continued to dominate in the second term, booting five goals to one.
Tim Smith landed the first for the term, just 54 seconds in, and although Darcy Fogarty replied soon after for the Crows, it proved to be their only major for the quarter.
When Hogan secured his third at the eight-minute mark, it was the start of four in a row from the Demons.
Angus Brayshaw opened his account, Neal-Bullen posted his third and when Nathan Jones kicked truly before half-time, Melbourne took a 48-point lead into the long break.
Brayshaw had an equal game-high 17 disposals by half-time, while Clayton Oliver had 16 touches. Crow Rory Laird had 17 possessions.
Third quarter: Melbourne 18.6 (114) to Adelaide Crows 5.4 (34)
It was another brilliant quarter by the Demons, as they piled on six goals to one.
Although Sam Gibson opened the second half – kicking Adelaide’s only major for the term – when Smith bobbed up with his second at the seven-minute mark, it was the start of six in a row by the Dees.
Hogan notched up his fourth, while Petracca kicked consecutive goals to enter three quarter-time with three goals.
Charlie Spargo and Tom McDonald also got on the board.
Entering the final change, Melbourne led by a whopping 80 points.
Final quarter: Melbourne 23.8 (146) d Adelaide Crows 8.7 (55)
Although the game was well and truly over, it was a case of how much would the Demons would win by? In the end, it was a stunning 91 points – Melbourne’s second greatest win over the Crows.
Adelaide showed some character early in the quarter, when they booted the first two goals.
But Melbourne again won the term – its 18th quarter in a row, which started in the third quarter against Essendon in round six – after booting five of the last six goals.
Melksham and T.McDonald notched up their second goal each, before Hogan bagged his fifth and Brayshaw recorded two late majors to finish with three.
Brayshaw’s third came after the siren – and it was also his 37th disposal – a game-high and personal best. Jack Viney in his second match back from injury finished with 35 disposals. Oliver also had 31 touches. Matt Crouch had 35 for the Crows.
