FOR THE BEST part of a decade, Aaron Davey thrilled the red and blue faithful, making the No.36 his own.

But now, eight seasons after ‘Flash’s’ career concluded, there’s a new livewire forward encapsulating the Demon spirit in the guernsey he once donned.

Booting 35 goals from 22 games in his second season at AFL level, Kysaiah Pickett has been a revelation for Melbourne, and looks ready to have an impact when the spotlight shines brightest.

And rest assured the Davey family will have their eyes glued to the TV screen when the 20-year-old does just that.

“It’s awesome watching Kozzy do what he does,” Davey told Melbourne Media.

“I think Kozzy will have a big following there because he’s been electric this year – he’s been fantastic – and I hope he keeps that up and helps the boys go and possibly win a long-awaited flag.”

Pickett is set to make his first post-season appearance on Saturday night, causing Davey to reminisce on 2004: the finals series debut of his own.

“I look back – that was sort of myself,” he said.

“A young Aaron Davey, playing with the likes of David Neitz, Adem Yze and Russell Robertson.

“It’s sensational, and the way he plays his role for the team is good.”

While Pickett is just 36 matches into his career, 142-shy of Davey’s grand tally, it’s hard not to draw comparisons between the pair.

“We both were the zippy little forwards, and the pressure and our ability to kick goals,” Davey said.

“It’s a joy to sit back and watch and I’m sure every other Melbourne supporter is like myself, just love watching Kozzy play.”

Pickett won’t be the only Demon running out onto Adelaide Oval with zero finals matches under his belt.

In fact, Melbourne fielded the second youngest side in the competition last week.

But Davey - who played four finals in his first three years of senior footy, including one alongside Pickett’s uncle, Byron - is confident this group will be up for the fight.

“Although they haven’t had that finals experience behind them, you can never underestimate the power of the unpredictability of young kids coming through,” he said.

“It’s exciting to see what’s going to unfold and if they keep playing the way they are and playing together as the team they are, I think it’s going to be an exciting next month for our footy club and all our supporters.”
