MELBOURNE midfielder Jack Viney has accepted the two-week ban, after the tribunal upheld the charge of serious misconduct.

The matter was referred directly to the tribunal, following an incident with Gold Coast player Sam Collins during Melbourne’s Round 20 match.

General Manager of Football Performance Alan Richardson said the club accepted the tribunal’s decision and agreed that the incident was not a good look for the game.

“Jack is an extremely competitive player, but we acknowledge that on this occasion his actions were not a good look for the game,” Richardson said.

“Jack understands that the head is a protected area and making contact to this area of the body is a clear error of judgement.

“We are disappointed that Jack will miss two matches, however we accept the sanction handed down by the tribunal."

Viney spoke after the hearing and was remorseful for the incident.

“There was absolutely no intention on my behalf to cause serious harm to Sam in any way and I apologise for my actions,” he said.

“Obviously I’m extremely disappointed to be missing the next two matches and frustrated I won’t be able to contribute to the team, however I accept the sanction that I have been given.”

The Demons made the trip to Perth on Monday and will spend the week in quarantine before the match on Monday night.
