MELBOURNE has added three new talents to its list at Tuesday night’s 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

The Demons entered the event with picks No.41, 42 and 45 to their name, securing a mix of youth and experience ahead of season six of the competition.

Pick No.41 – Georgia Campbell

DOB: 1/9/2003

Height: 182cm

Position: Ruck/Forward

Strengths: Athleticism, ruck craft, aerial skill

Georgia Campbell becomes the first father-daughter selection in Melbourne’s history, joining the Demons with pick No.41.

The 182cm ruck who poses as a threat up forward, qualified to play for the Dees after her dad, Adrian, did so on two occasions in 1993.

At just 17 years of age, Campbell was one of the standout talls in the NAB League this season, averaging 20.9 hit-outs and 8.4 disposals for the Eastern Ranges.

The All Australian, who has a background in cheerleading and represented Victoria for high jump in 2018, is the equivalent of a top 15 selection in the draft and could prove to be a steal for the red and blue.

Pick No.42 – Tahlia Gillard

DOB: 12/12/2003

Height: 190cm

Position: Ruck/Forward

Strengths: Agility, ball use, aerial presence

Melbourne’s second recruit of the night could turn out to be one of the great steals of 2021.

Sliding to pick No.42, Tahlia Gillard was one of the tallest prospects in the draft pool, standing at 190cm.

The 17-year-old, who has a netball and softball background, is a proven weapon both in the ruck and up forward, but she also has the attributes to develop into a key defender, if required.

Gillard was a member of the NAB AFLW Academy and played for both the Calder Cannons and Vic Metro earlier in the year, showing continuous improvement in the NAB League.

Pick No.45 – Ali Brown

DOB: 21/9/1997

Height: 177cm

Position: Key Defender

Strengths: Athleticism, ball movement, versatility, experience, aerial skill
The Demons’ final recruit at the draft, Ali Brown, is a ready-made talent with AFLW experience under her belt.

The 23-year-old key defender began her career with Carlton, playing seven games in the inaugural season, before being delisted at the end of 2017.

She then became St Kilda’s first AFLW signing ahead of its 2020 campaign and played 11 matches across her two years with the Saints.

Brown has experience playing in a variety of positions across the field, but more recently settled into a role in defence for the Casey Demons in 12 VFLW games.
