The Casey Demons will be eager to get back into playing their winning brand of football when they take on the last-placed Darebin Falcons.
After the last three weeks of football postponed due to Victoria’s COVID lockdown, the season is ready to get underway again, but the only downside is no crowds are permitted at the games.
Casey is currently sitting fourth on the ladder and looking to make its first finals appearance in the competition.
Before the break in play, the Demons had just come off two losses at home to the hands of Carlton and Port Melbourne.
They will now have the likes of Essendon, Southern Saints, Western Bulldogs, Carlton and North Melbourne all nipping at their heels to take their spot in the final six if things don’t go their way.
The Demons will be up for the challenge and look to the next two games to springboard into this year’s finals series.
There will be some fresh faces in the Demons’ line-up this week, with a few new recruits and old favourites returning to the side.
North Melbourne utility Kate Gillespie-Jones joins the side after being delisted by the Roos at the end of the AFLW season. Gillespie-Jones will certainly provide plenty of drive around the ground, while Winnie Laing joins the Demons from Carlton.
The competitive midfielder will be a great addition to the engine room and the former Sandringham Dragons captain will be looking to make an immediate impact for her new team.
It will be a welcomed return to one of Casey’s favourites in Mel Hogg, who has recovered from her ACL injury. Her intensity at the contest will only add value to an already impressive Demons line-up.
All up there are eight changes to the side, with Alison Brown, Shelley Heath, Tahlia Fellows, Jacqueline Parry and Nicole Hales all returning to take on the Falcons.
