COACH Paul Roos says he won’t get involved in any upcoming off-field decisions, in relation to player retention/recruiting or coaching additions/adjustments, unless he is asked.

Roos said he told general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney and future senior coach Simon Goodwin that he would be happy to help out if needed.

“I’ve basically and specifically grabbed Josh [Mahoney] and Simon [Goodwin] and [said] ‘I’m happy to bow out of that now’,” he said.

“If they want me [to have] some input in both a list management point of view and a contract point of view – then the next four weeks will continue to transition, as we’ve done it now.

“But there are going to be some things that I’ll really bow out of and if they need my advice and want to talk to me, then the door is open.”

Roos, who has four matches to coach at Melbourne, before he steps down from senior coaching, said all he was thinking about was this Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at the MCG.

“All you think about is Hawthorn and the meeting this afternoon,” he said.

“Having done it before, I know what to expect really.

“I’m really just looking forward to coaching and helping the players, and we’ll get a lot out of the next four weeks, because of where we’re heading. We know the direction we’re going to and the next four weeks will hopefully get us there.”
