MELBOURNE vice-captain Aaron Davey is free to line-up against Hawthorn this Sunday at the MCG, after his round one match-day report on Swan Ben McGlynn was dropped by the match review panel.

Davey was reported during the second quarter of the drawn match against Sydney Swans at the MCG on Sunday, after “making forceful high contact from front-on”.

The match review panel viewed the available television footage, speaking to the umpire and receiving a written medical report from the Swans.

The panel said it could not be determined if there was forceful high contact to the head or neck of McGlynn.

The video footage available showed the majority of contact was made to McGlynn’s shoulder and there was no movement of the Swan’s head/neck area when contact was made.

Therefore, no further action was taken.

Meanwhile, the match review panel also reviewed contact between defender Joel Macdonald and Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh during the second quarter.

The panel said McVeigh had the ball and side-stepped Macdonald, who jumped in the air. It also said that while in the air, Macdonald stuck out his leg to try and block McVeigh.

But it was the view of the panel that the contact made by Macdonald’s leg did not constitute a reportable offence.

Again, no further action was taken.
