MITCH Hannan says Friday night’s first semi-final win over Hawthorn at the MCG was an “amazing” experience.
Speaking after Melbourne produced a 33-point win, Hannan said it was an incredible feeling.
“It’s second week in a row that we’ve had a crowd of 90,000-plus and to have a win like that, and to know that we’re going through to the [the preliminary final, where we’ll play] West Coast, is an unbelievable feeling,” he said.
“You feel a little bit numb really – you don’t get too distracted by the crowd. I was glad I got the contested mark and was able to go back and go through my set-shot routine. It was a stock standard shot from about 25 [metres] out.
“So, I’m just glad it went through the middle.”
Hannan said he relished playing in another finals’ win, after experiencing his first against Geelong at the MCG in week one.
“In terms of the chaos of the game, it was probably not as hectic,” he said.
“I definitely felt the effects of the brutality of the game last week, but I think I enjoyed this win a little bit more – going further and deeper into the finals, and improving the brand of footy that we’re playing as a club is pretty exciting.
“They got a bit of a run-on there, but we knew that if we’d stick to our structures and what we’d put in place, prior to this game that we’d be able to swing the momentum back in our favour, which we did and then we were able to run over the top of them in the end.”
Hannan kicked three goals and was one of Melbourne’s best in its round 22 win over West Coast at Optus Stadium.
And he said the players were confident heading back there again.
“I was quite happy with my game the last time I was in Perth,” he said.
“It was a crucial game for us, as it put us into the finals, so we’re confident that we can go over there again, which is their fortress. With 50,000-odd fans against you, we’ll try and get the job done again.
“It’s something we’re pretty excited for.”
