THE 2015 Pink Lady Match proved to be a great success, with $80,000 raised for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) from the evening.
Melbourne’s round six match against the Sydney Swans saw the MCG turned pink in support of BCNA, with a range of breast cancer awareness and fundraising initiatives also included as part of the night.
The MCG lights were turned out, with the stadium lit by handheld pink lights, while a moment of silence was held to remember those touched by breast cancer.
A mini Field of Women was also set up outside the ground, with the 26,894 attendees given the opportunity to plant a Pink Lady silhouette in the area.
By the end of the night, 3,500 silhouettes were planted in the mini Field of Women, many with a special message attached, paying tribute to a loved one or showing support to someone diagnosed with breast cancer.
More than $11,000 was raised from tin collections held at the MCG on the night, while people were also able to donate over the phone and online.
Between 6.35pm and 7.30pm (10 minutes after the commencement of the match), BCNA received at least one donation every minute.
The $80,000 total will continue to rise, with proceeds from the auction of the special guernseys worn by Melbourne players on the night to be donated to BCNA.
