BIG man Max Gawn says “it was a pretty easy decision” to sign on with Melbourne for the next three seasons.
Gawn, who is in career-best form, said he always wanted to remain in the red and blue.
“I love Melbourne,” he said at AAMI Park on Friday.
“There is a good upwards trend going on at the moment here and a little more consistency with the way we play and over the next few years, we should be able to play some good footy.”
Despite being among Melbourne’s best performers, since he came back into the side and played his first game this season in round 10, Gawn conceded his form wasn’t up to scratch early on.
“I was really disappointed with my own form early in the year,” he said.
“I was disappointed I didn’t get picked in the round one side and I took that pretty poorly and it took me three or four weeks to get back to the form that I really wanted to be in.
“I finally got back into that form, but [Mark] Jamar and Spence (Jake Spencer) were in the AFL side and playing pretty well. It took me a while to crack in, but once I cracked in, I was starting to enjoy my footy.”
Meanwhile, Gawn said he wasn’t the biggest fan of his new nickname: ‘Mr Invincible’.
“I’ve come accustomed to it, so now it’s not bad,” he said.
“After the Geelong game, I played OK and one of the guys asked me how I was feeling after one of the contests and I accidentally said ‘invincible’. And the next day, my name tag on the board was ‘Mr Invincible’. Roosy didn’t let that one slip.”
