Tomorrow night, the Melbourne Football Club’s Coterie group were planning their 2021 AFL season launch event at The Australian Club.
Following feedback from supporters, members and club stakeholders, it was established that there were mixed views on whether this venue was appropriate. Despite the function venue welcoming both males and female guests, the Australian Club operates a male membership policy which has created the mixed views.
During those conversations between the Melbourne Football Club and the Coterie group, it was agreed the season launch should be relocated to the Jim Stynes Room at the MCG.
The Melbourne Football Club Coterie group has been a significant supporter of the Club for over 80 years. While the group runs independently of MFC, it does align with the Club’s values which is why the Coterie group understood the Club’s request to relocate the event.
The Coterie group encourages diversity in its membership and invites all Melbourne supporters to be part of the Coterie and enjoy the shared connection with the Melbourne Football Club.
The event will be attended tomorrow by around 150 Coterie members and friends, with the attendance list being over 40% females.
