THE Melbourne Football Club had the honour of awarding three life memberships at the Annual General Meeting at the MCG on Monday night.
John Stanaway, Neville Jetta and David Thurin were all inducted into a prestigious club which ties them to Melbourne for life, while Barbara Box was announced as the Volunteer of the Year.
Life Members
Stanaway’s recognition came on the back of 20 years’ service as a trainer for the Demons.
He has been the head trainer since 2006 and is a much-loved figure around the club.
Jetta was the second recipient of the award, with his work on and off the field being noted.
The reliable defender has played 141 games to this point in his career and has dedicated enormous amounts of time to the community in ambassadorial roles.
Thurin was the final life member to be announced, receiving the award on top of his Foundation Hero Legend status.
The Owner of Tigcorp has been on the Melbourne board since 2008 and continues to contribute significantly to the club.
Volunteer of the Year
The 2018 Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Barbara Box for her on-going dedication to the club.
Box has just completed her 15th consecutive year of volunteering at Melbourne and was one of the inaugural members of the MFC Structured Volunteers Group which was created in 2004.
Box has helped the club in a wide range of behind the scenes tasks such as packing show bags, coordinating sections at Banquet Auctions, supervising family day stalls and assisting at junior clinics.
She has also performed administrative roles on both match day and during the week.
As a life-long Melbourne fan and a loyal member, Box has provided tremendous support for the playing group and regularly travels around the country to cheer on the team.
Additionally, Box is a long-term player sponsor of Nathan Jones, sharing her passion with the Melbourne co-captain.
She is a wonderful asset for the Melbourne Football Club and this award is a great reflection of her ongoing hard work.
