MELBOURNE vice-president Don McLardy has hit back at comments made by Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett, who claimed he was approached to take over as Melbourne president.
The club released a media release on Friday to address the issue.
“The Melbourne Football Club is very disappointed by comments made by Hawthorn President Jeff Kennett in relation to the Melbourne Presidency,” McLardy said.
“I can confirm that neither the Board, nor any person connected with it, has approached a Hawthorn person to become President of the Club.
“Furthermore, the Board has close dealings with the Club's support groups and networks and we have never heard of any such approach being made by any person.
“The club is flabbergasted as to why Mr Kennett would make these comments, and their timing. From comments made by Mr Kennett, the supposed approach was made over six months ago.
“Melbourne people can rest assured we will not be distracted by the comments and views of opposition clubs and their office holders.”
