THREE new faces will be pulling on the red and blue this weekend, as the Demons announced their debutants for Round 1.
With the players’ families gathering over the fence at Gosch’s Paddock, Alyssa Bannan, Eliza McNamara and Megan Fitzsimon received their guernsey’s before the Tuesday night training session begun.
The three draftees have had a big impact since arriving at the club in November and will all add something different to the side come Saturday’s clash with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.
Bannan – the Dees’ first selection with pick No.5 – is a versatile 177cm forward with lightning speed, but she’s not the only elite runner in the group.
In a stunning performance around the tan, McNamara won the club’s 2km time trial on the first night of the pre-season and she will add plenty of run through the midfield.
Fitzsimon is also most damaging in the centre, impressing the coaches with her footy smarts and composure with the ball in hand.
While Melbourne’s final team of 21 won’t be named until Friday night, the club decided to break the news to the three girls early, while their loved ones could be present.
