MELBOURNE chairman Glen Bartlett has provided an update on the club’s facility project.
Addressing members at the annual Member Forum, Bartlett outlined the Demons’ progress on their quest for a home base, before reinforcing its importance.
“We are currently working with the State Government and the AFL, to explore the feasibility of several sites within the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Precinct, to locate a new training and administration facility,” he said on Thursday night.
“Proximity to the MCG and this precinct has always been a very important factor, given our history of our home being at the MCG for over 160 years.
“Landing on a new site is something we need to get right, as it will be our home, and your home, for decades to come.
“The Melbourne and Olympic Parks precinct has a number of stakeholder groups and we’re engaging fully with them, and this takes time.
“We’re hopeful the options we’re currently exploring will offer significant benefits for the whole club – for our coaches, players and all of our staff, and for you, all of our members.”
The club’s admin department currently operates out of the MCG, while its football programs are run from AAMI Park and Casey Fields.
With the goal of bringing the whole club together, under the one roof, Melbourne has a dedicated working group, in charge of looking into its options.
This process engages Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust, with discussions continuing to evolve.
