IT’S FAIR to say this year’s Best and Fairest event looked a little different.
For starters, there were no suits and cocktail dresses – the boys donned their polo and shorts, with partners digging out the best attire they could find from a suitcase packed 11 weeks prior.
There were no fans in the audience, it was an alcohol-free event, and CEO Gary Pert took on duties as the Master of Ceremonies.
Chairman Glen Bartlett and midfielder Angus Brayshaw attended via Zoom, and as Shannon Byrnes finely pointed out, the ‘dining hall’ was in fact the team room where players, staff and family members have been eating their meals for the past nine weeks in Twin Waters.
All that aside, the Demons made the best of a difficult situation, much like the season on a whole, and celebrated the achievements of their players, in what truly has been a season like no other.
